Voice Your Objection NOW

Now that Banks Developments has lodged its appeal, it is time for us to express our objections to this appeal and to urge the inspector to uphold the decision by CNBC to reject the application.

There is no doubt that the weight of public opinion against the original application had a significant influence on the decision.

We need to mobilise that support again and quickly.

We have until 29th May (final date of acceptance in Bristol) to lodge our views in writing so please act now.

Details of how to object and where to send your letters are listed below.

Reasons for Objecting

We can object to this appeal on a number of grounds.

Most important is to support the view taken by CNBC when it refused the original application:

“The Local Planning Authority considers that the proposed development by reason of its siting and height of 60m would be visually intrusive in this rural area and would therefore be harmful to the character and appearance of the adjacent Areas of Special County Value. As such the proposal would be contrary to Policies NE.2 (Open Countryside), NE.3 (Areas of Special County Value) and NE.19 (Renewable Energy) of the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich Replacement Local Plan 2011.”

You might consider:

  • Respect and support for the democratic process as executed by duly elected local representatives in what is and should be a local planning matter;

Though financial gain might be the developer’s motive, please remember that concern over potential financial loss, whether through property values or other sources are not considered material grounds for refusing an original application of this nature.

Some of the issues causing us concern include:

1.    It would be visually intrusive, having an adverse impact upon the visual openness and character of the countryside, residential amenity, designated landscape and conservation areas in the locality.

2.    The proposed location is very close to and overlooked by two Areas of Special County Value for Landscape:

a.    Bickerton Hill (owned by the National Trust) which includes parts of the Sandstone Trail and Maiden Castle, a Scheduled Ancient Monument

b.    Cholmondeley Park

3.    It fails to enhance the environment and will deter visitors to this beautiful, rural area, jeopardising both our tourist industry upon which much local employment depends.

4.    We, the local community have been offered none of the following information:

a.    Analytical information for choosing the suitability of this location

b.    Sequential site assessment for alternative locations

c.    Landscape and Visual Impact Appraisal

d.    Ecological Habitat Assessment

e.    Demonstration of its meeting the needs of local people
